Mischief in the Wild realms

The Haunting is the darkest time of year in the wild realms. It's the time when both moons are out for the longest and the light is at it's shortest. Creatures of the Shadow Realm torment those in the darkness with only the few beings of the Celestial Realm to provide any protection.
The Patchlings are one of those aforementioned creatures of the Shadow Realm. They carve their own unique home within the Shadow Realm that they choose to keep hidden until the Haunting each year. They spend the rest of the time hibernating and stewing, planning for their next bout of trouble.
These small orange round folk are troublemakers at heart (if they had them). They love stealing, moving road signs, digging up paths, replacing beds with rocks, moving sleeping creatures, and even flipping whole houses upside down.

Very few creatures of the Wildlands know of the Patchlings but all know of their antics. Those who have met a Patchling are met with a vicious little creature that is often found in small swarms. Whilst their teeth may look harmless, their bight can be misleading. Whilst it doesn't give off any effects, it is a much stronger and harsher bight than would be expected of these little guys.

The inhabitants of the Wild Realms have a couple of ways of warding off the Patchlings. The first is to create small paper Patchlings to decorate the outside of your house. The thought here is that Patchlings will see their friends already at work and find another target. However, this doesn't always work as Patchlings aren't very smart and often love joining in on the action that's already ongoing.
The next method is to place motifs and statues of their arch enemies outside your house. The Lunorbs are creatures of the Celestial Realm and emanate the light of the lost soul of a creature. These floating moon-like creatures are said to be the very souls of the good creatures still roaming the lands, looking to protect others. The light and good qualities of the this gentle floating orb make it disgusting in the eyes of the Patchlings. They often avoid the Lunorbs out right even though they often outnumber them. However, catch a big enough horde of Patchlings (who will often be accompanied by a Patchghust (Patchling wrangler)) and they will gain enough confidence to try their chances against a solitary Lunorb. For this reason, mofits of them aren't always the best way of warding off these mischivious spirits.
The most fool proof method of protection is actually to leave them treats. Their favourite snack is Frookins. These little hand crafted treats are handed out to children each year during the Haunting. Whilst being a delicious sweet treat for kids of each town, children are given these sweets to take off into the forest to hide. Wearing all many of scary outfits, the young of each settlement bury Frookins around the woods to distract the Patchlings from their targets. Once they've dug them up and eaten them, their mouths get all stuck together from the sticky treat as well as making them tired. This little extra slumber lasts just long enough that it's time for them to head back into the Shadow Realm again until next year!

If this little bundle of trouble sound like your kind of thing, then you can get your hands on a little swarm of them right now!
