Something Strange Afoot

A whole new game! This exciting new project brings an entirely new design aesthetic, new gameplay ideas, a whole array of new models, and a brand new rules and expansion format!

This exciting new game pits bands of terrifying creatures from various universes, dimensions, and timelines in furious fights for seemingly no reason at all. These battles take place where ever your mind wishes to take you using small variable squads from all kinds of different backgrounds and contexts. Want to fight your squads of goblins, space soldiers, and British gentlemen against a horde of rats, eyeball gods, and cloud creatures amongst the purple forests of a dying star? Battles of the Fuck*ng Strange is perfect for you!

The game is currently in active development and as such doesn't have a playable version yet but we do have some exciting things to share about what's to come!

First up we have a really cool concept for the games release and the format in which you'll find it. Being in love with our zine format, the game's rules, faction books, expansions, and lore will be compacted into individual zine posters. That's right, a whole rulebook in around 7 small pages! Folded all the way out the rulebook will feature either a full A3 poster of the cover art or a page full of different art and lore for the game (still tbd).

Each faction will feature a small number of units that can be packed using an extremely simple points system keeping games quick and easy to play as well as shortening the time it takes to make a list. Each of these faction books will also be in zine poster format making them small and easy to keep with you (especially with players needing up to 3 to play a game). On the back of each of these is either a play mat for the faction or art for the faction (again tbd).

Whilst this big project may take some time to get going, especially for different factions to appear, we already have ideas and rules down for factions as well as something even cooler. Models! Part of the appeal of this game for us is a foray even further into 3d printing. With such a wide range of styles and factions that will eventually become available, there will be an equal number of awesome models to go with them. We even already have some 3d printed (and painted) models that we've already made for the game's first faction. We'll have more previews on here as new models are made. Even better, these models will be available to buy from our store as pre-made faction packs, with a fully made list to play the faction and a unique terrain piece, or as booster packs so you can pick and choose the units you want to use!

Got a whole host of dusty minis from various different games waiting for another life? Perfect, reuse, kitbash, and imagine as you see fit!

So what actually is the game you'll be playing? A strange morphed child of an army battler and a skirmish game, players will control 3 squads of different units (all of varying sizes and factions) to make up their army. Players then battle it out across strange and randomly created battlefields for victory.... or just fun. The focus here is all on unit abilities and synergies with different units. Your choice in factions will drastically change how certain other units in your army will play. Got a large catapult in your army? Take horde units with them to fling across the battlefield! Hordes not your thing? Take a giant mecha robot with your catapult and use the catapult as a projectile instead. Always keep your opponent thinking!

Being slightly sick of the confines of D6 in wargaming, the game uses an entirely unique system using sets of RPG dice over the limited D6. No longer will a huge mecha titan be luckily destroyed by a plucky rat with a particularly sharp bite. Need to roll a 12 to wound your target but only have a D4 to roll? That sucks buddy, get something bigger!
